Dr. Ibrahim, MD, FRCP, is a Professor of Hematology/Oncology at the National Lebanese and Beirut Arab Universities, and a Clinical Associate at the Department of Internal Medicine, American University of Beirut (Lebanon). He is also Associate Dean for research at Balamand University, Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences (Lebanon).
Dr. Ibrahim obtained his MD in 1987 and pursued a fellowship in Clinical and Biological Hematology, followed by a post-fellowship training in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation at the University of Paris, then, at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle under the supervision of Professor E. D. Thomas (Nobel Prize of Medicine). He was also trained in Immunology at the laboratory of Professor Jean Dausset (Nobel Prize of Medicine) at the University of Paris.
Later, he was appointed Assistant, then Associate Professor/ Attending Physician at the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at Institute Gustave Roussy, University of Paris (XI) Saclay.
In 1997, Dr. Ibrahim established the first comprehensive Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at Makassed University Hospital - Beirut, via a Franco-Lebanese cooperation with the Institute Gustave Roussy. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at the Middle East Institute of Health (University of Balamand - Lebanon), as well as the Chairman of the Hematology/Oncology Department and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at Makassed University Hospital (Beirut Arab University - Lebanon).
Dr. Ibrahim coordinated phase I and II studies in the Department of Oncology at the Institute Gustave Roussy and has participated in several international and national research programs and studies in the field of Hematology/Oncology and Cellular Therapy. He was a Research Associate at the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique)-UA1156 at the Institute Gustave Roussy and has been a Research Associate at Lebanese CNRS. He has been an Associate Director of Research for PhD at the Faculty of Pharmacy-University of Paris V.
Dr. Ibrahim has taken teaching responsibility in several sections of the Master of Human Biology and the Diploma of Oncology at the University of Paris (XI) Saclay. He also was a co-Director of a joint fellowship in Heamtology organized between Makassed University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lille II (France).
In 1993, he was elected as a core member of the EORTC-Leukemias Group. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Mediterranean Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EMBMT). He is also a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), European Hematology Association (EHA), European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), and Eurasian Hematology – Oncology Group (EHOG).
His main interests are Hematological Malignancies and Cellular Therapy (particularly Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation). He is on the Editorial Boards and acts as an active reviewer for multiple journals in the field.
Dr. Ibrahim has authored and co-authored more than 400 medical publications and book chapters.
